The search for 'The Greensand Way'

Our plans for the weekend changed because of the highly reliable railway network. Engineering works on the tracks out to Hertford doubled the expected journey time and we just couldn't be asked. Saturday was a day of rest and on Sunday we made our way off to Oxted with the idea of picking up the long distance Greensand Way and walking to Redhill. We had no map but expected a few signs and thought we'd be able to follow our nose, at least to Bletchingley, where they were having a carnival and hopefully grilling some food. The town of Oxted was silent; even if it was only 10 o' clock on a Sunday morning. We walked west and picked up a path that seemed to be what we wanted. It took us into Old Oxted, through Tundridge and then surprisingly back towards Oxted. We asked a few of the waking local representatives but none had ever heard of the Greensand Way. Our search was abandoned and instead we made our way back into Old Oxted to find ourselves a worthy Sunday lunch. On the way, along a route that we had negotiated an hour before, we stumbled upon a well camouflaged sign with an arrow and the letters GW.

Back in a flat in the 'real' world

We've been back in London for a while now and are both busy at work. Our backpacks are hiding behind the cupboard and our clothes are packed away. We have a fridge of fresh supermarket food and our bathroom is peaceful and clean. Everyone understands us and we can walk down the street without being extensively examined. The funny thing is that it all feels quite strange.
We've ended up on the middle floor of a converted Victorian house in Putney. A surprisingly light and comfy place on a quiet street that is near the river, a couple of cool pubs and a great park.
This weekend we're heading off to Hertford to our new holiday home (sorry Paul, but that's what we call it now). We spent a week at the place after arriving back in the country and liked it so much that we decided to adopt it.

A bit of a wind

Friends recently sent us this picture and I think it's worth a look. It was taken in Torres del Paine, Southern Chile, just less than a year ago.
