Stonehenge and Salisbury - 24 July

After a really good Saturday night sushi session with Simon, Lorrainne, Shaun, Robyn and Badger, we woke up pretty early on Sunday. It was raining quite heavily, but we decided to continue with plans, and we caught a train from Clapham to Salisbury. We hopped on a guide friday bus, and headed off for a tour of the town, and ended up at Stonehenge. By the time we got there, the weather was good, and we had a tour around the big rocks. Very glad that we had a tour guide, otherwise they would have been just big rocks. Don't know why they decided to build such a great monument on such a busy road (hee hee). After Stonehenge we headed back into Salisbury. As towns go it is really pretty, surrounded by hills, and at the convergence of 5 rivers. We walked around a bit, and checked out the Cathedral, which I think has the 3rd highest spire. After a bit of shopping we headed back home on the train. Great to get out on a Sunday and do something constructive.

Walk from Canterbury to Dover - 16/17 July

We headed off to Canterbury early on Saturday morning. We started walking at about 9:30, and passed the cathedral, went through town, and headed off into a farm. The weather was fantastic, very hot, and there was a lot of shady spots along the way. We walked through some seriously big fields, and some seriously little villages. We got to our pitstop about 4 and a half hours later. A little village called Sheppardswell. On arrival we were greated with the sound of some country and western tunes. It was the Annual Jamboree, so lots going on. 2 burgers, 2 cooldrinks for £3. The band was some local farm boys, and they even played a somewhat similar rendition of Green Day's latest number. We located our B&B, called sunshine cottage, and explored the village. The pubs normally aren't open for grub in the evenings, but the one had the local golf club having a function, so they said we could get some food. Actually was very good. We were up early, had a good breakfast at the B&B and then headed off in the direction of Dover. Really changing scenery, with farmlands, orchards, woodland, and forest. We walked down into Dover passed a huge, beautifully scenic graveyard. It was about 35km's of walking, and we decided that wasn't enough, so we headed off to Langdon Cliffs (the white cliffs), and walked another 10km's. Awesome blue skies, great contrast to the whiteness of the cliffs. After the walk, and a view over the really busy port, I decided to test the waters, and had a really quick swim. All in all, a really cool weekend.
