Magnetic Island

After our relaxing sailing at Airlie Beach we decided that we needed just a bit more relaxation and made our way to Magnetic Island. The island has no magnetic properties except for its ability of drawing tourists and locals. It got its name when Captain Cook sailed past and all his instruments went haywire.

Bungalow Bay Koala Sanctuary (and YHA) was our home for 4 days and we quickly got into the island life of only togs and thongs (cozzies and slops). We attempted 2 hikes in the rocky terrain in search of wild koalas - 1 almost ended in dehydration and 2nd degree sunburns and the other we were rewarded with spotting 2 wild koalas but also with tourists climbing and swinging on trees, trying to get the perfect photo.

To celebrate the start of birthday week we had a champagne breakfast in the koala sanctuary. Not sure if the birthday boy was more excited about the koalas or the breakfast.
